Heavy work can be done almost anywhere

Having 3 children often means that we are on the go and we don't get to spend much time at home. I have learned that not being home is not an excuse to get heavy work done. Just today I had to drive an hour to Costco to do a quick shop, then drive home unpack the car and pack the truck to head to the beach. Even though we were not home very much we were still able to sneak in time for heavy work.

Grocery store:
- Pushing the shopping cart.
- Hanging onto the cart and climbing around the outside (please be careful with this one, Baby Boy does this when I am stopped and looking at items on the shelves).
- Placing items into the cart, if you child is not tall or strong enough to reach into the cart then they can place the items on the bottom.
- Taking the items out of the cart at the cashier, most of the time that means I have to lift it out of the cart and hand it to Baby Boy and then he places it onto the conveyor belt.
- Helping to load the trunk of the car with the groceries.

Yes these steps do mean that it takes longer to get your shopping done but at least you don't have to go home and worry about getting heavy work done.

Beach:
- Pulling the wagon from the car to the beach.
- Carrying buckets of water or sand.
- Swimming, the pressure from the water as you are trying to walk or swim is great.
- Digging in the sand.
- Getting buried in the sand (my children love the deep pressure of the sand on them).

Hotels:
- Carrying luggage into the hotel, this can even be just a backpack or a pillow for a younger child.
- This one sounds a little like exercise but take the stairs, I know that I can feel it in my legs when I walk up the stairs.
- Head to the pool if they have one, jumping of the sides (only if the water is deep) is great heavy work.

Waiting rooms:
- Keep a 1 foot piece of Thera band in your bag that can be used for your child to pull on either by themselves or with you holding one end. If you have a larger piece you can wrap it around the legs of a chair and your child can use their legs or feet to move the Thera band.
- Give your child a bear hug or have them hug you, this deep pressure is great heavy work.

In the vehicle:
- Bring along a weighted lap pad, we have one that is a Ziploc big bag filled with rice and different items inside to make a search and find.
This lap pad has seen better
days as you can tell from the tape
            - The lap pad can be placed on your child's lap.
            - The lap pad can also be carried around.
            - Another option would be to roll the lap pad over which gives the sensation for push and pull and also the texture of the rice.
- Opening and closing the doors.
